The story behind the name

King of Denmark, Sweden, Norway and England

Cnut the Great (985-1035), also known as Canute, was the son of Sweyn Forkbeard, King of Denmark. His mother was the daughter of Mieszko I, the first ruler of Poland. Cnut the Great became king of Denmark, England, Norway and parts of Sweden, but after the death of his heirs within a decade of his own, and the Norman conquest of England in 1066, his legacy was largely lost to history.
