A 5-6 person tent is the right choice when the whole family or group needs to sleep under one roof — with real space to sleep, spend time together and store gear without getting in each other's way. Most tents in this size are best suited to car camping and fixed campsites where the tent stays in one place.
On a family trip or a longer camping holiday, standing height and separate sleeping zones are not extras — they are what makes the trip comfortable for everyone. A tent with full standing height gives freedom to change, unpack and spend time inside when the weather demands it. Separate sleeping cabins give adults and children their own space.
The more people, the more gear. A spacious porch provides covered space for cooking, wet clothes and muddy boots without it all moving into the sleeping cabin. For families with a lot of equipment it is worth prioritising a tent with generous porch space as well as sleeping space.
Cotton tents create the best interior climate in all weather conditions — particularly noticeable on warm summer days. PU-treated polyester offers good UV protection and weather resistance. Both weigh more than lightweight materials, but for car camping and fixed campsites where weight is not a deciding factor they are the natural choice.
