Comfort, limit, extreme

Comfort: the lowest temperature at which an average woman sleeps comfortably in a relaxed position. Plan with this figure if you sleep cold.
Limit: the lowest temperature at which an average man sleeps eight hours, curled up, without waking from the cold.
Extreme: a survival rating, the lowest temperature at which an average woman can stay in the bag for six hours. Never plan a night around it.

The degree figure in a model name is only a rough guide. The Walløe +10° Mummy has a limit of 6 °C, the Knuth +10° Mummy a limit of 10 °C. The definitions are in our sleeping bag and mat FAQ.

Choose by season

Summer sleeping bags: limits of 6 to 10 °C. The lightest adult bag is the Walløe +10° Mummy at 415 g in size M.
3-season sleeping bags: limits from 4 °C to -7 °C for spring, autumn and nights around freezing.
Winter sleeping bags: limits from -10 °C, down to -28 °C on the Arctic 1400.

Down or synthetic

Down sleeping bags are lighter and pack smaller. Synthetic sleeping bags with NorGuard polyester fill cope better with damp and dry faster. At a similar limit, the goose down Walløe ±0° Mummy (-1 °C) weighs 665 g in size M and the synthetic Knuth ±0° Mummy (-2 °C) 1.1 kg.

Fill power tells you the down quality, from 600+ cuin duck down in the Ides to 800+ cuin goose down in the Walløe. Our down sleeping bags have been sewn by hand in Görlitz, Germany, since 1983. For expeditions, the Arctic 1100 and 1400 use water-repellent Crystal Down® Dry in a shell with a 1200 mm hydrostatic head.

Mummy, wide or blanket

A mummy bag tapers towards the feet and has a hood, so there is less air to warm. Wide models give more room at the shoulders: the Ides ±0° Wide measures 86 cm across in size M, against 77 cm for the Ides Mummy. Blanket bags such as Freja, Saga, Frigg and Sif keep the same width from shoulders to feet and open fully, and Saga and Sif zip to a second bag of the same family.

Sizes for all ages

Most adult models come in M, L and XL for body heights of 160-175, 175-190 and 190-205 cm, and the Knuth ±0° Mummy also comes in Small for up to 160 cm. Our sleeping bags for kids carry a feel-good temperature range instead. The Ides Junior extends to fit children up to 150 cm, the Bjarni Scout up to 175 cm.

A mat underneath

Temperature ratings are measured with the bag on an insulated mat, and the ground takes heat from you all night. As a guideline, choose an R-value of 2 to 3.9 for three-season use, 4 to 5.4 for nights below freezing and 5.5 or more from -18 °C. To make a bag you own warmer, the sleeping bag accessories include the Boost 4 Down-filled Foot Muff (90 g) and the Boost 8 Down-filled Liner (206 g).

Care and guarantee

Store your bag loose in a storage bag and use the pack sack only for travel, so the fill keeps its loft. Care & Repair in Görlitz washes, refills and repairs sleeping bags. Bags bought at full price on our own webshops are covered by the Beyond Repair Guarantee: 50 % off a replacement after an accident within 2 years, once per product.
