A 1-2 person tent is the right choice when low weight and mobility come first — for the solo hike, the bikepacking trip or the tours where you and one other want to move freely with minimal pack weight.
The more your body has to perform with the tent on your back, the more every gram matters. For multi-day trail running and long-distance hiking, weight is a decision at every stage. Pack size follows the same logic — the smaller the tent packs down, the more room you have for everything else.
For a single overnight stay you can get by with the minimum if weight is the priority. On longer trips — especially in unpredictable weather — it is worth choosing a tent where you can at least sit upright. A good porch gives covered space for cooking and wet gear without it moving into the sleeping cabin.
Not all tents are built for strong winds and extreme conditions. Tunnel tents generally perform best in sustained wind from one direction — dome tents handle shifting wind directions better. Most Nordisk tents have been tested in wind strength tests — compare the figures in the product descriptions before you decide.
Cotton tents are the most breathable and robust but also the heaviest. PU tents are strong and UV-resistant but bulkier than synthetic alternatives. SI tents are a strong compromise with low weight, small pack size and high durability. LW and ULW tents are the lightest and most compact — precise in their construction and strong enough for many trips in the wild when pitched correctly.
Nordisk has been developing tents since 1901 — from ultralight models for hikers and bikepackers to spacious technical cotton tents for glamping and family camping. We use PFC-free materials and constructions tested under demanding conditions. Because good gear should last — not just for the next trip, but for many years to come.
