When synthetic makes sense

Synthetic fill performs better than down when wet and dries quickly, as our sleeping bag and mat FAQ explains. The trade-off is weight: at the same -10 °C limit, the Knuth -10° Mummy weighs 1.54 kg in size M, against 850 g for the goose down Walløe -10° Mummy. If you can keep the bag dry, our down sleeping bags weigh less and pack smaller.

Limits and weights

Official weights in size M, by limit temperature:

  • 10 °C: Knuth +10° 475 g, Bjarni +10° 540 g, Frigg +10° 660 g, Sif +10° 1.35 kg
  • -2 °C: Knuth ±0° 1.1 kg, Bjarni ±0° 1.2 kg, Frigg ±0° 1.45 kg, Sif ±0° 1.75 kg
  • -10 °C: Knuth -10° 1.54 kg, Bjarni -10° 1.64 kg
  • -20 °C: Knuth -20° 1.9 kg

Knuth or Bjarni

The Knuth +10° Mummy is the lightest sleeping bag in this collection at 475 g in size M, against 540 g for the Bjarni +10° Mummy. Knuth has a side zip and a shoulder width of 71 cm in size M, while Bjarni has a complete zip and 74 cm. The Bjarni ±0° Mummy (1.2 kg in size M) shares the -2 °C limit of the Knuth ±0° Mummy. For more room, the Knuth ±0° Wide Mummy and Bjarni ±0° Wide Mummy measure 83 cm across the shoulders in size M.

Synthetic for winter

The Bjarni -10° Mummy shares the -10 °C limit of the Knuth -10° and weighs 1.64 kg in size M. The Knuth -20° Mummy has a limit of -20 °C and weighs 1.9 kg in size M. It uses three layers of fill, where the ±0° and -10° models use two. All three are in our winter sleeping bags. In winter, pair the bag with an insulated sleeping mat.

Frigg and Sif blankets

Blanket bags keep their full width to the feet and open completely, so they double as a blanket. The Frigg +10° Blanket weighs 660 g and the Frigg ±0° Blanket 1.45 kg in size M. Sif has a cotton outer fabric and flannel lining and comes in a carry bag with a handle. The Sif +10° Blanket weighs 1.35 kg and the Sif ±0° Blanket 1.75 kg in size M, and two Sif bags can be connected.

For children

The Bjarni Scout Mummy extends as your child grows and fits children up to 175 cm tall, with a feel-good range of +9 °C to +5 °C. The Frigg Junior Blanket fits children up to 150 cm and has a feel-good range of +12 °C to +8 °C. The down-filled Ides Junior Mummy is in our sleeping bags for kids.

Storage and repairs

Dry the bag completely after a trip and store it loose, not in its compressed pack sack. The Universal Storage Bag gives it room at home, and the Universal Pack Sack replaces a worn one. If a zip breaks or the fabric tears, Care & Repair in Görlitz can repair the bag.
