Down jackets, coats and parkas are the warm layer. Some have a rain shell built in: these combine water-repellent Crystal Down® Dry with an outer fabric rated by its hydrostatic head, such as 10,000 mm. Shell jackets and trousers have no filling. They are the rain layer, worn on their own or over something warm.
Fill power and waterproofing
Fill power, given in cuin, tells you how much space the down fills. The higher the figure, the less down a jacket needs for the same warmth, which keeps it light and packable. The Crystal Down® in our jackets ranges from 700+ to 900+ cuin. On shells, the hydrostatic head shows how much water pressure the fabric holds back, and breathability how much moisture it lets out.
Finding your size
Men's and unisex styles share one table in our size guide, and women's styles have their own. Shop by fit in the women's outlet and the men's outlet.
Washing and repairs
Wash down jackets at 30 °C in a front-loading machine on a gentle programme with down detergent and no fabric softener, then, if the care label allows it, tumble dry on low with three tennis balls to restore the loft. Shell jackets also go in at 30 °C, but not in the tumble dryer. Care & Repair in Görlitz washes and dries down jackets, repairs cuts and holes and replaces zips.
