Start with the number of sleepers. We make 1-2 person tents for solo and pair trips, 3-4 person tents for small families and groups and 5-6 person tents for the larger trips where everyone sleeps under one roof. Remember to factor in space for packs, bikes and gear — not just sleeping bodies.
If the tent goes on your back, weight and pack size are decisive. Some of our lightest 1-person tents weigh under 500g — built exclusively for adventure races and ultralight exploration where every gram is a decision. LW and ULW materials offer the best weight-to-durability ratio. SI tents are the strong compromise — low weight, small pack size and high durability for multi-day hiking and bikepacking.
Hydrostatic head is the internationally recognised measure of how waterproof a tent fabric is — the higher the number, the more waterproof. In high rainfall conditions prioritise a high hydrostatic head rating. For extreme wind, tunnel tents perform best in sustained wind from one direction — dome tents handle shifting wind directions better. All Nordisk tents are wind tunnel tested so the stated wind ratings are verified, not estimated.
Good tent design is not just aesthetic — it is functional. Are the zippers easy to operate at -10°C with thick gloves? Is the tent easy to pitch alone? Does the colour make it easy to locate in low light? These are the details that separate adequate tents from the ones you keep coming back to.
Cotton tents in technical cotton are the most breathable and create an interior atmosphere no synthetic material can match — particularly on warm days. PU-treated polyester offers good UV protection and weather resistance. LW and ULW tents are the lightest and most compact — strong enough for demanding conditions when pitched correctly.
