Nordisk Village Shangri-La

Nordisk Village Shangri-La sits in the Napahai Lake Scenic Area of Shangri-La, Yunnan, at around 3,300 metres above sea level. It is our second village in China and the highest one we have, opened in the year Nordisk turns 125. The site is a Tibetan settlement of rammed-earth houses and highland pasture, and it has been kept that way. Scandinavian design, our tents and our furniture sit inside the existing buildings and the existing landscape instead of replacing them.

Napahai sets the rhythm. In the wet season the lake spreads out across the shoreline and wetlands; in the dry season the water pulls back to grassland, yaks graze past the houses, and prayer flags move in the wind above the village. Guests arrive to a yak latte served in Madam Blå. The glamping tents and the Lofoten equipment here are meant to be used rather than displayed: shelter that lets you actually live on the plateau at a slower pace, and gear that takes you further out once you are rested.

The village works as a basecamp, not an end point. From here you can reach the mountains, pastures, villages and cultural sites around Shangri-La, among them Songzanlin Monastery, the old Tibetan farmhouse wineries and the wetland tracks you can cross by off-road vehicle, then come back to a bed, a local meal and company. Longer stays add guided routes and Intangible Cultural Heritage craft workshops.

The village is run together with Kuiye, a Yunnan outdoor operator founded in 2019, as part of its Nomad Yunnan programme. Nordisk brings the product standard, the design and the outdoor experience. The landscape, the food, the culture and the people of Yunnan are the reason to come.

We are waiting for you by Napahai, ready to hygge. Tashi Delek!
